Wireless Enhanced Strain Gauge IoT SenSpot™

Description

The Wireless Enhanced Strain Gauge IoT SenSpot™ by Resensys is a stand-alone product and cost-effective solution for distributed structural integrity monitoring. This wireless IoT strain gauge sensor measures data from two separate strain gauges and features an easy installation with either flange or adhesive mounts. Equipped with a high-capacity lithium-ion battery charged by a solar panel, it operates maintenance-free.

Based on the SeniMax™ Lite architecture, IoT SenSpot™ sensors can be applied easily to as many critical spots on a structure as needed with minimal installation effort.

With its robust design and IP68 weatherproof protection, it is ideal for strain monitoring in outdoor and hard-to-reach locations. The strain gauge IoT sensor uses a Nano SIM card with 4G LTE for remote data transmission without needing an intermediate device for sending the data, reducing overall project costs, especially for smaller projects.

FAQs

What is the Wireless SenSpot™ Strain Gauge IoTSensor?

The Resensys Wireless SenSpot™ Strain Gauge IoT Sensor is a stand-alone, ultra-low-power device that measures strain, or deformation, on up to two independent channels. It reads bonded strain gauges, resolves changes down to 1 microstrain (µε) over a ±1000 µε range, and uploads the data wirelessly to a remote server for structural analysis.

How does a wireless strain gauge sensor work?

A Wireless SenSpot™ strain sensor uses a strain-sensitive gauge whose electrical resistance changes as the host material deforms. The gauge is read in a Wheatstone bridge — quarter-, half-, or full-bridge — and the device converts the resistance change into microstrain. It stores the readings and sends them over a cellular link to a remote server for real-time structural analysis.

What are wireless strain sensors used for?

Wireless SenSpot™ strain sensors support structural health monitoring of airplanes, bridges, buildings, cranes, tunnels, platforms, and machinery. Common uses include fatigue analysis, bridge load tests, fracture-critical monitoring, extreme load tests, and detecting overweight loads such as dump trucks.

Does the sensor need a gateway or wiring?

No. The Wireless SenSpot™ Strain Gauge IoT Sensor is completely stand-alone. It uses an LTE-M/NB-IoT cellular connection (via a Nano SIM with an active 4G LTE plan) to upload data directly to the remote server, with no separate gateway. Eliminating the gateway lowers project cost, especially for small deployments of only a few sensors.
