Resensys solutions can be used for variety of applications. Three representative applications are:
Monitoring Displacement with Resensys Wireless Displacement SenSpot Sensors • Movements of structure members within certain ranges indicate the integrity and safe operation of that structure. The Resensys structural health monitoring (SHM) solution can be used for monitoring displacement in bridge and structure members. As an important application the displacement SenSpot can be used for crack monitoring which is an important part of SHM. Cracking may cause serious damage to the structure which deteriorates its integrity and safety. Resensys displacement SenSpots are able to monitor cracks in concrete, steel and composite materials. The displacement meter shown below consists of two parts which are to be installed on the two sides of the measurement spot. The relative distance between the moving and fixed sides of the SenSpot is measured with accuracy of one tenth of a millimeter. These SenSpots are available in different measurement sizes such as 1, 2, and 4 inches.
Fracture Critical Monitoring With Resensys Wireless Strain SenSpot Sensors Measurements • Fracture Critical Member (FCB) is defined as component in tension whose failure is expected to result inthe collapse of the bridge/structure or the inability of the bridge/ structure to perform its function. A fracture-critical bridge or other structure has a structural component of which failure could lead to bridge distress and possibly collapse. The failure of a single major tension member or member element is likely to cause a significant portion or the entire bridge to collapse due to a lack of redundancy. Fracture criticaldesigns can leave bridges vulnerable to possible collisions with ships or large trucks. A bridge/structure can become fracture critical if deterioration over time leads to degradation of materials compared to their original design strengths, or if loading use increases such that designed redundancy isreduced.
Bridge Bearing/Expansion Joint Monitoring Using Resensys Wireless Tilt SenSpot Sensors • A bridge bearing is a component of a bridge which typically provides a resting surface between bridge piers and the bridge deck. The purpose of a bearing is to allow controlled movement of the structure andthereby reduce the stresses involved. Possible causes of movement are thermal expansion andcontraction, creep, shrinkage of/ within the structure, or fatigue due to the properties of the material usedfor the bearing. For instance, abnormal movements in the bearing/ expansion joint may cause abnormal movement in the piers of a bridge.
